We had no indoor plumbing then, so the water had to come from a hand pump at the top to the hill. I used a make shift double boiler to melt chocolate (no microwave folks!) and when the recipe called for two ounces, I used three or more. The chocolate oozed out of my smile. I greased the cake pans with butter wrappers and carefully lined the pans with waxed paper.

“Signe's is a cafe with food that is as healthful as the climate and the activities of Hilton Head Island.”

- NEW YORK TIMES

Clouds of chocolate aroma wafted out the cracks in our windows, and I could hardly wait long enough for the cakes to cool before I slathered them with thick chocolate frosting, which thinned out and ran onto the plate because the cake was still warm when I put it on.

But the funny part was that although I would always be in a rush to finish, and dress a cake up, I would never cut into one with out someone to share it. That is what these cakes are, "have a piece with me cake- and then have a second piece with me." These cakes ship beautifully!
